Enterprise AI Procurement Readiness Assessment

Before you brief vendors or issue an RFP, run this diagnostic. The assessment evaluates your readiness across seven domains and tells you whether you are ready to proceed, what gaps need addressing first, and which areas represent the highest procurement risk.

Most enterprise AI procurement processes begin too early. Vendors are engaged before internal clarity exists, requirements are defined during vendor demonstrations rather than before them, and governance gaps that should have been resolved during planning instead emerge during deployment.

This assessment is a structured diagnostic designed to surface those gaps before they become procurement problems.

Across seven domains, the tool evaluates whether your organisation has the internal foundations required to engage vendors effectively, negotiate commercially, and govern a deployment once it is live.

What the Assessment Covers

The assessment evaluates seven domains that consistently determine whether enterprise AI procurement succeeds or stalls.

Use Case Clarity

Whether the organisation has defined specific operational use cases rather than generalised intent. Vendor engagement without use case clarity typically produces generic proposals and speculative procurement.

Architectural Direction

Whether the technical approach has been determined and whether non-functional requirements have been defined as gating criteria for vendor evaluation.

Governance and Data Controls

Whether data classification, access controls, privacy obligations, and AI-specific governance requirements have been addressed during procurement rather than retrofitted after deployment.

Commercial and Cost Modelling

Whether the organisation has modelled total cost of ownership beyond licence fees, including integration, change management, and ongoing operational cost.

Vendor Evaluation Structure

Whether a structured evaluation framework exists, including defined scoring criteria, shortlisting methodology, and reference validation.

Operational Ownership

Whether internal ownership, support structure, and the post-deployment operating model have been defined before contracts are signed.

Decision Framework Maturity

Whether the rules governing how AI will be used in decisions, including escalation paths and exception handling, have been documented.

What Your Results Include

On completing the assessment you receive:

A readiness score and band across four levels: High Risk, Structuring, Controlled, and Ready. Each band includes a procurement recommendation based on where gaps are concentrated.

A domain breakdown ranked from lowest to highest score so the areas requiring the most attention are visible immediately.

Red flag alerts for any domain scoring below 50%. Red flags indicate gaps significant enough to affect procurement outcomes if left unresolved.

A recommended procurement approach with practical next steps based on your overall score and the pattern of identified risks.

Who This Is For

The assessment is designed for IT leaders, procurement professionals, and business decision-makers in Australian organisations evaluating or planning enterprise AI procurement.

It is most valuable during the pre-RFP phase, before vendor engagement begins.

If an RFP has already been issued or vendor negotiations are underway, the domain breakdown may still help identify governance or operational gaps that should be addressed before contract execution.
